National Youth Brass Band of Wales - Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff

  • Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama Castle Grounds Cardiff CF10 3ER (map)

The best young brass players in Wales are ready to show off their passion and potential.

Led by Welsh conductor Paul Holland, Musical Director of Flowers Band in Gloucester, the concert will feature Eric Ball's High Peak, a challenging piece that has been a staple of brass band contests for over 50 years. Also featured will be Gareth Wood's Five Blooms in a Welsh Garden, a beautiful and lyrical piece that celebrates the natural beauty of Wales.

Belgian cornet soloist Lode Violet, Principal Cornet of the award-winning Brassband Willebroek, will also be joining the young musicians. Still in his 20s, Lode is a rising star in the brass band world and brings a youthful flair to inspire the players in the band.

The rest of the program features a variety of other pieces that showcase the band's versatility. Including works inspired by the architecture of cathedrals and even Monopoly.

And for those who haven’t had their fill of royal revelry this year, Frank Wright's majestic arrangement of Walton's Crown Imperial, written for the coronation of George VI, could be for you.

The first thing that’ll catch your eye when you walk into a brass band concert is the instruments. But the best thing about a brass band concert is the sense of community. The musicians all working together to create something really special.

“Those who made it to this concert will certainly have left lifted in musical spirit…delivered with purposeful accomplishment.”
