As the first national youth orchestra in the world, the NYOW has 70 years experience in providing a first-class training experience for Wales’ young musicians and constantly delivers performances that are full of energy and passion. It is a flagship for youth music in Wales.
The NYOW presents concerts in prestigious venues across the UK and abroad, including; St David's Hall (Cardiff), Bridgewater Hall (Manchester), NCH (Dublin), The Sage Gateshead, Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt (Berlin), Beethovensaal (Stuttgart), the Salle Erasmus (Strasbourg) and on the Italian island of Ischia. It is frequently invited to perform at prestigious international music festivals including the Three Choirs Festival, Fishguard International Festival and the North Wales International Music Festival.
A Gala Concert for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales' 70th Birthday
This year the first national youth orchestra in the world celebrates 70 years of first class music-making. To celebrate this milestone, Grant Llewellyn conducts a professional orchestra of esteemed NYOW Alumni representing some of the UK's finest orchestral musicians.
Featuring a popular programme and two celebrated Welsh Harpists: Catrin Finch and Anne Denholm (Harpist to HRH Prince of Wales), this concert is a unique celebration of a landmark in Wales' musical history and a chance to support future generations of young musicians.
The Orchestra itself will boast over 80 professional musicians drawn from the ranks of the Halle, Royal Philharmonic and London Philharmonic Orchestras; Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Royal Opera House and from Wales' own BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera.
