As the first national youth orchestra in the world, the NYOW has 65 years experience in providing a first-class training experience for Wales’ young musicians and constantly delivers performances that are full of energy and passion. It is a flagship for youth music in Wales.
The NYOW presents concerts in prestigious venues across the UK and abroad, including; St David's Hall (Cardiff), Bridgewater Hall (Manchester), NCH (Dublin), The Sage Gateshead, Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt (Berlin), Beethovensaal (Stuttgart), the Salle Erasmus (Strasbourg) and on the Italian island of Ischia. It is frequently invited to perform at prestigious international music festivals including the Three Choirs Festival, Fishguard International Festival and the North Wales International Music Festival.

Entry Requirements
- Candidates are accepted for audition on the approval of their county Head of Music Service (or his/her authorised representative or equivalent) and are expected to support music activity at school/college and county level. Where county activity does not exist, the Head of Department in school or college may initially support applications.
- Candidates should normally be of grade VIII standard or currently working towards it having passed grade VII; harp students should be of a minimum grade VI standard.
- Candidates should be 21 years or under on 31/08/2012
