A musical stocking filler this Christmas.

Imagine...the sun is shining over Swansea Bay as the sea laps the golden sand. Holiday-makers aplenty are settled on the beach; buckets and spades, ice-cream and suntan lotion abound ... after all, it is the height of summer 2005.

Now imagine the confused faces of these same holiday-makers as strains of Jingle Bells and Winter Wonderland fill the air...

At the end of a hectic and successful summer concert tour in 2005 the National Youth Orchestra of Wales recorded a selection of Christmas music at the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea. Christmas Spirit, a cd of Christmas music from the NYOW and Owain Arwel Hughes, was released on Thursday 8 December.

The recording allowed the Orchestra to experience a whole new way of working that complemented the usual rigours of training, rehearsals and concert performances.

It was an experience that was hugely enjoyable, paving the way for a very special recording to be made next year on the occasion of the Orchestra's 60th Anniversary, which will be released to coincide with the Orchestra's debut performance at the Welsh Proms in July 2006.
