National Youth Arts Wales

Opening of new Senedd building.

National Youth Symphonic Brass Wales will provide the first music to be heard inside the new National Assembly for Wales Senedd building on 1 March 2006.

NYSBW, comprising 16 brass players drawn from the National Youth Brass Band, National Youth Jazz Wales, National Youth Orchestra of Wales and National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales, will present a newly commissioned fanfare from composer Richard Elfyn Jones. The fanfare, commissioned for NYSBW by Tŷ Cerdd-Music Centre Wales through the Welsh Amateur Music Federation, will announce the arrival of the royal party for the opening of the building on St David's Day.

The fanfare will be performed twice - initially in its shorter form, and subsequently in its full version, which leads into the Welsh national anthem.

NYSBW, under its Director, Professor James Watson, will also provide music to accompany the royal "meet and greet" and will accompany two co-residents from the Wales Millennium Centre, Diversions Dance Company and Hijinx / Odessey Theatre in another specially-commissioned work.

Note: Dolbadarn, Gareth Glyn's specially-commissioned fanfare for the opening of the Wales Millennium Centre and played by NYSBW, was heard in its new, brass band version in the summer, when it was performed to introduce each of the NYBBW summer concerts.
